Sunnyside Farms Ammonia Test Using Poultry
Blend...
Sunnyside Farms has three high-rise laying
houses, which are 600 feet long and 65 feet
wide. Each house has six sets of cages and a
ventilation system supplied by fresh air vents
located in the middle and sides of each house.
The
manure drops out of the cages and is stored in
the bottom level of the house. The lower level
has pit fans approximately every 20 feet on both
sides of the building. Air is also moved through
the aisles by 36" circulation fans that are
approximately 50 feet apart down each aisle.
AIRE SOLUTIONS installed a gpm pump in the front
of the house #2. High-pressure plastic pipes
were attached to the 10-foot ceiling in aisles
two and four. Nozzles were intermittently placed
down the pipe to provide adequate coverage
controlled by a pump that turns on every fifteen
minutes.
These tests were made in southern Nebraska by
the site manager and the company veterinarian.
Testing ran from 12/22/02 - 2/16/03, which is
the coldest time of the year and when ammonia
counts are at their highest. House #2 was
sprayed with Poultry Blend; House #1 used as the
control - no Poultry Blend.
Reading the chart from left to right - column #5
is the outside temperature on the day of test.
Columns 6,7, and 8 represent NH3 readings in the
front, middle, and back of the houses.

Since the pump turns on every fifteen
minutes, you may notice some higher readings
in house #2. This occurs because we are at
the end of the cycle (time off interval) and
the ammonia ppm has increased.
Since this test, AIRE SOLUTIONS has made
major improvements on our system. These
include a pump with a relief system, a
filtration system, nylon high pressure
tubing, and strategically placed lines and
nozzles. For further information contact:
